ABOUT DeWELLE FERGUSON

Skip was born in 1939 and died in 2008. He built the resort and this entire website, and we are keeping things pretty much the way he made them, to honor his memory. The resort is currently open and operating the same as it always has, under the careful direction of Skip's wife Belle.

The personal information about Skip and his family is included on this page only because a person's family background is often very important to Asians.

For example, many of our guests-customers come from Asian countries where there are sayings similar to the following:

"Never do business with a man until you know his parents -- his children -- his grand children -- his great-
grandchildren -- and the birthdates and interests of each."

When the Asians repeat those types of sayings, they often laugh as though they are only joking. However, amidst the laughter they will usually admit that this philosophy is often a very important part of their culture.

Because of this Asian philosophy, many of the resort's potential Asian guests (especially the older ones) will view this site as being an "introduction" to Skip. Therefore, in order to show proper respect towards our Asian brothers and sisters we feel that we must include a considerable amount of information about Skip and his entire family.

We hope that this page will show our Asian brothers and sisters that Skip is a reasonably stable guy -- that he greatly respects Asian "traditions" -- and that he will not disappear overnight. :-)

Since he retired, Skip continued to teach log home building through the L.H.B.A.O.N.A.

SKIP AS A FORMER BUSINESS-MAN:

            Prior to retiring many years ago, Skip was the sole owner of a private school in America -- which he operated for many
            years.   He was previously given many awards, which are far too numerous to list here, but which include the
            following:

1. He was listed in Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, which is a companion volume to Who’s Who in
America;

                        2. He was accepted to be included in Strathmore’s Who’s Who Registry of Business Leaders;
                        3. He was given The Professional Achievement Award by The Professional Recognition Society, of
                             Alexandria, Louisiana;
                        4. AND the list goes on...

            Many years ago, because of Skip’s business successes, he was asked to be an American delegate to
            “The U.S.-China Joint Session on Industry, Trade, and Economic Development,” at Beijing, China.

            The honorary chairman of the delegation was Ronald Reagan, former President of the United States of America.

Skip is a “member-for-life” of DELTA KAPPA EPSILON FRATERNITY:

            Members of this International Fraternity are called “Dekes.” The Greek letters that are the insignia of this Fraternity
            are “ΔΚΕ”. These letters are engraved on the ring that Skip always wears on his right hand.

One of his fraternity brothers is the current President of the
United States of America -- George W. Bush, Jr.

Another of his fraternity brothers is the former President of the
United States of America -- George Bush, Sr.

"SIX" PRESIDENTS OF AMERICA WERE MEMBERS OF SKIP'S FRATERNITY -- INCLUDING THE CURRENT PRESIDENT -- AS FOLLOWS:

In fact, five of the most recent 25 Presidents of America (20% of the presidents) were members of
Skip's fraternity at the time of George W. Bush's election.

            The book lists Skip’s fraternity brothers in alphabetical order, and the list includes MANY of the most powerful
            business and political leaders in the world.

          Wikipedia explains that a member of Skip's DELTA KAPPA EPSILON fraternity is guaranteed to be selected as one of the
          15 persons that are chosen each year to join the SKULL AND BONES secret society, which is generally considered to be
          one of the most powerful secret societies in the world.

It is said that the socio-economic-political successes of the members of Delta Kappa Epsilon are, at least to some extent,
the result of Delta Kappa Epsilon's “association” with the "SKULL AND BONES" group -- and vice-versa.

                  Skip's fraternity has produced more American “political” leaders than any other fraternity.

         This is possible only because of Delta Kappa Epsilon's political power in America and throughout the world, These leaders
         include many Vice Presidents – many Supreme Court Justices of the U.S.A. – many State Governors – many Congressmen –
         many Senators – etc.

                 Also, many of the most important American “business” leaders are members of Skip’s fraternity.

        Our members that are "business leaders" throughout the world are far too numerous to mention here. However, they do
        include many of the most successful business-men in the America -- including the men who started the following
        companies:   Fed-Ex – General Electric – Colgate Palmolive – Cellular One -- Procter and Gamble – AT &T – J.P. Morgan –
        Chase Manhattan Bank – I.B.M. – Dean Witter – Southwest Airlines – American Express – Bristol Myers -- Squibb – Fuji Xerox
         –  Heinz – The Hearst Corporation (the largest newspaper conglomerate in the world) – Wrigley – Bausch and Lomb -- and
        the list goes on forever...

The photo above is of Skip's personal DELTA KAPPA EPSILON FRATERNITY HOUSE that is located at the University of Washington. The "ΔΚΕ" sign is visible on the outside wall of the house (right side). At this writing, the DEKE fraternity has approximately 96 of these Fraternity Houses throughout America (as well as similar Fraternity Houses in other countries) and each one is simply a "chapter" of the same fraternity. In this photo Skip and his son Chip (then two years old) are standing at the top of the steps of the DEKE Fraternity House where the boy will become a member when he attends the University.

Skip's two young sons (Chip and Flip) are "legacies" to Delta Kappa Epsilon. This means that the fraternity is "REQUIRED" to accept them because they are the sons of a member.

Skip feels that his son Chip will someday be the President of the Philippines, and he has made several "lunch-bets" regarding that issue.

SKIP’S MARTIAL ARTS BACKGROUND:

SKIP WAS BRUCE LEE'S THIRD STUDENT IN AMERICA.

Skip practiced martial arts with Bruce for many years. They met and became close friends in 1959, when Bruce was “only” a dishwasher at Ruby Chow’s restaurant on Capital Hill in Seattle, Washington. Skip’s close personal friendship with Bruce continued until Bruce’s untimely death in 1973. In Skip's heart his close friendship with Bruce Lee still continues....

Copies of some of these books and articles – along with photos of Bruce and Skip giving Kung Fu exhibitions together on T.V., at the World’s Fair, etc. -- are here at Skip’s Beach Resort.

Skip is currently writing a book about his good friend and teacher Bruce Lee. A copy of the book is in his computer at the Resort. The book is called “BRUCE LEE – HIS APPROACH TO GUNG FU – AND MORE…”

Portions of Skip's book have been included in the two above-mentioned Chapters -- and can be read (without the need for buying the book) at this website. Eventually, the entire book will be available for reading here... FREE.

At the second annual BRUCE AND BRANDON LEE MEMORIAL BANQUET in Los Angeles on January 10 and 11, 1998, Skip was given a special medallion as a token of his friendship with Bruce. The medallion is now hanging in the “Bruce Lee Room" of Skip’s log home at his ranch near Seattle, Washington (photos enclosed).

This special room that honors Bruce Lee is located in Skip's huge log home that was used to film the "log mansion scenes" for the TV Series called NORTHERN EXPOSURE.

Skip was Bruce's third student in America to get a uniform. Bruce's friends-students got the uniforms primarily so they could help Bruce as he started giving exhibitions at such places as the World's Fair -- the International Trade Fair -- on TV -- at Seattle's Chinatown (for Chinese New Years Celebrations) -- at Vancouver's Chinatown -- at high schools, colleges, and universities -- at various communities (e.g. Yesler Terrace Gymnasium) -- and the list goes on...

The photograph (below) of Bruce Lee's original students in America was taken with Skip's camera. He still has the negatives.

Both of the photos (above) were taken with Skip Ellsworth's camera after the "group" gave a series of Gung Fu Exhibitions, on Television in Seattle, Washington. Skip still has the original negatives, and the receipt for developing from Bartell's Drug Store (formerly a drug store chain in the Seattle area).

The photos directly above were taken with Skip's camera at a Kung Fu Exhibition at the INTERNATIONAL TRADE FAIR, in 1961, He still has the original negatives. The photos were developed in August of 1961 -- as indicated by the date printed on the photos by the developer.

In the photo on the left, Bruce Lee is demonstrating some techniques with Jesse Glover.

The photo to the right (above) was taken at the same Kung Fu Exhibition, with Jesse Glover demonstrating a Kung Fu form.

Again, Skip Ellsworth is in the background waiting for his turn to do the same thing.

SKIP'S RESIDENCE IN AMERICA:

Skip’s 7,000+ sq. ft. log home at his ranch near Seattle was used by Universal Studios to film the "log-mansion" scenes for the award-winning TV show, NORTHERN EXPOSURE. His home was the mansion that was "lived in" by the fictional character named “Maurice” (a retired astronaut played by Barry Corbin).

Skip’s log home has been written about in many major books, magazines and newspapers. Also, it has often been featured on television, including an appearance on KOMO TVs NORTHWEST AFTERNOON, in a documentary showing local homes valued from $2,000,000. U.S. to $15,000,000. U.S.

The size of Skip's home can best be understood by examining the photo immediately below -- and comparing the size of Skip's Jeep (parked at the right side of the house) to the size of the house itself.

The "double-door" in the front of the house was large enough so Skip could drive his bull-dozer and his truck through the door, and inside the house.

In fact, when the home was still under construction, Skip would often drive his Jeep inside the house (along with his friends and their Jeeps) and they would use the first floor as a Jeep "race-track." It was obvious that there was even room for building "hill-climbs" to the second and third floors (If we brought in some dirt) -- etc.

Skip's logging buddies would often harass him about his car.

                "Where is the winch, Skip ???"
                "Where is the logging arch, Skip ???"
                "How fast can you tow a log through the forest with this thing, Skip ???"
                Etc., etc., etc.

Regarding Skip's log home, the photos below show the following: The main dining room -- the dining room table which seats 26 people and can be "extended" to seat even more -- one of the three separate living rooms -- the library (with a pool table) -- the Bruce Lee Room -- one of Skip's cars -- part of his various collections (including 36 guitars -- 186 guns, which have now been sold or given away -- 1,500 knives from all over the world -- many artifacts from all over the world -- ivory carvings in the glass cases -- a "full-size" doctor's buggy (circa 1850) hanging on the wall, with a full-sized "Santa's sleigh" hanging next to it -- many hunting trophies-- a collection of antique furniture -- and the list goes on...

He is allowed to tell us the name of one of these societies. The others are so secretive that he can not admit – or deny -- that he belongs to them.

Many of our Asian customers place a great deal of importance upon the Asian Fraternal Organizations to which a man belongs. In fact they often use this information when selecting people that they will (or will “not”) do business with. Because so many of our customers are from Asian cultures, we feel "socially-obligated" to provide information about at least a few of the International Fraternities and/or Associations to which Skip belongs.

THE RED DRAGON SOCIETY:

Skip was asked to join this Chinese Society for several reasons (e.g. his association with Bruce Lee – his involvement with martial arts – his business activities – his political allies – and his socio-economic activities – his ethics -- his involvement with many governments -- his membership in Delta Kappa Epsilon -- etc.

THE RED GANG AND THE GREEN GANG:

This group is listed here only as an “example” of the influence that the Chinese Gangs can have. It is reported in the Wikipedia Encyclopedia that this particular gang, which is really only “one group” in spite of the name, has more than six million members throughout the world (including America and the Philippines). It is also reported that this membership includes 1.8 million gangsters and 100,000 professional assassins.

Skip is a member of the highly respected international Filipino Brotherhood, called THE GUARDIANS. This group has many chapters throughout the Philippines and elsewhere throughout the world.

The Guardians is a Philippines Patriot Organization that was created in order to enable patriotic Filipinos to guard, protect, and serve the Philippines in any way possible.

Because of this, the “Guardian Brothers” are often called upon to serve the various branches of the Philippine government.

When the Guardians are assisting the Philippine government at “public” events, they can generally be recognized by their characteristic green shirts, with The Guardians insignia on both the front and the back.

The Guardians can also be recognized by the three tattoos they always have (e.g. on the thumb-web of the "right" hand – AND the second tattoo that is always on the thumb-web of the "left" hand – AND the third tattoo that is always on the uppermost muscle of the arm (the deltoid muscle).

The Guardian motto is as follows: BROTHERHOOD – SERVICE – SOLIDARITY – INTEGRITY.

Skip says that his brother guardians could easily add many other words to describe themselves, including the words LOYAL - BRAVE – SERIOUS – COMMITTED -- and DEDICATED.

     “My brother GUARDIANS are a bunch of totally awesome guys. They love the Philippines
     as much as I do. They take our "brotherhood" very seriously. They are dedicated. They
     are brave. They protect each other. You can trust them with your life.”

There were so many people at the meeting that we could not get everyone into the same photo.

SKIP ELLSWORTH IS A "SENIOR FOUNDING MEMBER AND ADVISOR" OF THE WORLD-WIDE "JEET KUNE DO HEALTH AND HUMANITARIAN ASSOCIATION:

Please note that the "Foundation" has now changed to an "Association," which explains the name difference as indicated below. We are in the process of up-dating.

Dr. C. Gigante McBaine (affectionately known as "Mac the Knife" and/or Dr. Mac) is the founding physician, and moving force behind this very worthwhile endeavor -- providing medical care to those who can not afford it -- and supporting charitable clinics, hospitals, and schools in developing countries such as Nepal, Thailand, Philippines, India, Cambodia, Laos, Bangladesh, etc.

Doctor Mac recently wrote an excellent book called BASIC THEORIES OF JEET KUNE DO, AN INTRODUCTION TO ITS PHILOSOPHICAL PRINCIPLES, APPLIED PHYSICAL MOVEMENTS AND HEALTH BENEFITS.

SKIP IS THE DIRECTOR OF "THE ALFONSO FUND" WHICH SAVES THE LIVES OF MANY POOR FILIPINO CHILDREN

For many years, Skip has been paying for the emergency medical care of poor Filipino children in his area. The children (wounded, sick, suffering, and often in the process of dying), are brought to Skip and his wife Belle.

They immediately send the child to the correct medical treatment facility, and arrange to pay the bills.

Eventually, it got to the point where Skip could not handle the expenses on his own. It was then that his good friend Renato Alfonso came forward to help. Mr. Alfonso made a large donation, which enabled the program to keep going.

Renato's generous donation established the "Alfonso Fund" to which anyone except Filipino Citizens and/or residents of the Philippines can make a donation. Because we are now using "other people's money" (in addition to our own) to help save these lives, we felt obliged to set up an accounting system, whereby donors can see where their money is going. Therefore, on the "SKIP'S BEACH RESORT" website, we have included a list of all of the donations we receive -- and also a list of all of the expenses (except the ones that Skip pays out of his own pocket).

Skip has saved the lives of many poor Filipino children throughout the years.

Here in the Philippines -- where antibiotics are "relatively" inexpensive -- it is possible for us to save the life of a child for less than it costs to buy a pack of cigarettes in America.

SKIP'S INTEREST IN LOG HOMES:

Skip was previously the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Log Home Builder’s Association of North America. This private International Trade Association has been listed in such publications as the following: A Directory of National Trade Associations, published by The United States Department of Commerce; The Encyclopedia of Associations, published by The Gale Research Company; The National Avocational Organizations Directory, published by Columbia Books; The National Trade and Professional Associations of the United States, published by Columbia Books, etc.

The above-mentioned private Trade Association is also included in many publications such as “BUSINESS FINANCE. COM,” (which lists more than 4,000 sources for business loans, venture capital, and commercial financing). This publication provides more than 4,000 sources for business loans, venture capital, and commercial financing.

According to the Log Home Builders Association of North America, Skip is the most knowledgeable person in the world regarding log homes -- and the log home building industry.

SKIP'S TRAVELS:
Skip has spent a lot of time traveling throughout the world. Although he is a very patriotic American, he prefers to live in Southeast Asia, in such countries as the Philippines -- Thailand – Laos – Cambodia – Burma (Myanmar) – Malaysia – Indonesia – Singapore -- Macau – Korea – Hong Kong – Kowloon -- China (many of the largest cities) – many of the small tropical islands in the Sulu Sea and the South China Sea – etc.

He often travels with his lovely wife Belle -- their son Chip who is currently 12 years old (born May 4, 1995) -- and their son Flip who is almost two years old (born on March 20, 2006).

The following photos are of Skip and Chip at the Great Wall in China -- at the Terra Cotta Figurines in China -- at the Forbidden City in China -- going on an elephant safari through the jungles of northern Thailand -- at the Bamboo Riverside Restaurant at Chiang Kong (one of Skip's favorite restaurants in the entire world), overlooking the Mekong River, with Skip, Belle, and Chip having a moonlight dinner, and with Chip taking the picture -- Chip with one of his girl-friends in Burma (Myanmar) -- Chip and Skip at the town of Mae Sae, Burma, which is located in the heart of the Golden Triangle -- Chip buying bus tickets to Bangkok (he always buys the tickets, makes the reservations, processes his own papers at the borders, takes care of exchanging the currency, registers his mom and dad at hotels, negotiates prices in the marketplaces, and even rents the motorcycles for the trio (in places like Laos, Burma, Cambodia) while Skip and Belle have coffee at nearby restaurants. What a son !!!

Yes... Chip can rent motorcycles "on his own" in many of those countries even though he is only 12 years old. They only ask him for the money in advance, AND for a photo-copy of his Passport.

Skip and his wife Belle were married in a Muslim Ceremony at that Mosque on January 11, 2005. [See photos below.]

Because of Skip’s Muslim faith, he does not drink alcohol – use drugs of any kind – use tobacco – gamble – lie -- cheat -- steal -- and he has absolutely NO FEAR OF DEATH.

Skip is a very peaceful Muslim. Therefore, he takes advantage of every opportunity to spread peace and harmony throughout the world – especially on the Island of Cebu – and especially on the North end of the Island near his home-town of Daanbantayan.

To promote "peace" throughout the world, Skip suggests that almost anyone might benefit from knowing what a Muslim is required to do if you ask him for mercy (e.g. "sanctuary").

This means that Skip's participation in the resort business is limited to doing such things as the following: Visiting with "friends-guests" – taking his friends to the Island of Malapascua (and other small islands) in his boat – taking his friends to the Daanbantayan market – taking his friends on motorcycle tours of the area – taking his friends exploring in his jeep – doing legal research -- writing books (about Bruce Lee, about Log Homes, about the Philippines, about living and traveling in Southeast Asia, etc.) -- and most especially, hanging out with his young sons Chip (age 12) and Flip (age 21 months).

Skip loves to learn about various cultures by actually "living" in those cultures. It is one of his favorite hobbies.

Also, he loves to meet the various guests at SKIP'S BEACH RESORT – become friends with them -- entertain them – and help them have a good time in the Philippines.

There are times when Skip needs to be in his office (e.g. The "ROOM 4 INNER SANCTUM") for days at a time -- waiting for phone calls from America -- working on legal papers for his company in America -- etc.

PLEASE realize that you are always more than welcome to knock on the door of ROOM #4 -- stop for a
visit (a chair is waiting for you) -- have a cup of coffee and some munchies -- etc., etc.

THERE WERE RUMORS THAT SKIP DIED:

[ NOTE FROM SKIP'S FAMILY: This section was written prior to Skip's actual death on August 6th, 2008. ]

The personal information about Skip is also included here in order to help him re-establish communication with his old friends from all over the world -- some of whom have recently heard rumors that SKIP DIED.

Unfortunately, in his Lincoln High School Alumni Newspaper (THE TOTEM II, fall edition, 2006, page 22) there is an article indicating that SKIP DIED HERE IN SOUTHEAST ASIA.

The exact words used in the "Lincoln Alumni Article" were as follows:

“We mourn the loss of some of our graduates, and we send our condolences to
the friends and families of Diane Locke, Dean Bergstrom, Skip Ellsworth...., etc.”

Because of the above-mentioned "very" premature notice of Skip's death, a few people actually sent
flowers and cards to Skip’s alleged widow.

“My dear classmates, To quote a remark made by Samuel Clemmons [Mark Twain] in one of his many speeches, ‘Rumors of my death have been somewhat exaggerated.’"

"In fact, I would like to personally assure my classmates that I am currently alive and well, and living on a beautiful tropical island here in Southeast Asia. Also, I want you to know that all of you are welcome to come here for a visit at any time. My house is your house."

Here is a recent photo of Skip and Belle -- and of Skip and Chip (born on May 4, 1995). The Mekong River is in the background. Obviously, Skip really is alive and well.
